Maharana Pratap Singh: Great warrior of India.
Maharana Pratap, who is called the brave Rajput and proud of India, was the king who did not allow Mughals to come on his soil. The fear of Maha Rana Pratap had settled in the Mughals so much that they used to think many times before raising their sword. Maharana Pratap was such a ruler, whom Akbar could never defeat. No matter how powerful Akbar was, but after knowing Maharana Pratap, he could never dare to attack the kingdom of Rana.
At the time when Maharana Pratap was born, the condition of the Mughals had become very bad. Humayun was chased away by Sher Shah Suri after the Battle of Kannoj and the Mughal Sultanate completely vanished. It is said that Akbar has sent many peace proposals to Maharana Pratap, but Maha Rana Pratap never accepted it. Even Akbar promised to provide half India to Maharana Pratap in return for Chittor, but Maharana Pratap rejected all his appeals. He sacrificed his life for the protection of Bharatvarsh. The main battle of Maha Rana Pratap’s life known as the Battle of Haldighati, in which Akbar was defeated brutally.
Introduction of Rana Family and his succession:
Maharana Pratap was born in Kumbhalgarh, Rajasthan on 9 May 1540. His father’s name was Maharana Udai Singh and his mother’s name was Rani Jeevant Kanwar. He belongs to the Sisodia dynasty. His brother’s name was Bappa Rawal, Rana Hamir, Rana Sangha, etc. It is said that when Maharana Pratap was young then he used to learn war tactics and administration in his childhood plays. Even his leadership quality was quite well to rule the kingdom from childhood. Maha Rana was the eldest brother out of all his 25 brothers. And his father was the ruler of the kingdom of Mewar and his capital was Chittoor.
According to history, during the time of throne succession, his stepmother Dheerabai urged Udai sign II to coronate his son Rana Jagmal instead of Maha Rana Pratap. So, there were many clashes in the family for throne succession at that time. And, finally, his brother Rana Jagmal was coronated. Although, Maha Rana Pratap was very important for Mewar. Because he was the only one, whose administrative and political decisions power was too strong.
When Maha Rana Pratap was 27 years old then suddenly Mughals army attacked and surrounded Mewar capital Chittor in 1567. But, instead of fighting with Mughal forces, Udai Singh left the capital and shifted his family to Gogunda. After this war, Akbar captured Chittor completely.
It is said that during this war, many ladies of this capital performed Jauhar or Self-Immolation. Because Akbar was the lustful person, who shifted women in his Harem or Prostitution house. And, in this war, 30,000 Hindus were killed by the Akbar army, or the rest were converted to Islam.
A war fought between Akbar and Maharana Pratap, where Maharana’s Brother Shakti Singh deceived him and supported Akbar. But, later he supported Maharana Pratap again and shared all of the tactics of Akbar with Maha Rana Pratap. And this war was won by the Maha Rana Pratap sigh’s kingdom.
After, Maha Rana Pratap succeeded the throne in 1572 as the 54th ruler of Mewar. Akbar’s dream of becoming the Jahanpanah of Hindustan was shattered as soon as Maha Rana Pratap took the oath of becoming the king. Although then Maharana Pratap was king of Mewar, then he had no capital, no proper resources, and less economy.
Battle of HaldiGhati between Maha Rana Pratap and Akbar:
This battle was fought between Maha Rana Pratap and the Akbar army. Which was headed by Raja Man Singh and Asaf Khan on 10 June 1576. Akbar’s army had 80,000 soldiers, on the other hand, Maha Rana Pratap’s army had only 20,000 soldiers. Despite this, the military leadership of Maharana Pratap was so strong that his army fought Akbar’s army till the last moment.
The height of Maha Rana Pratap was 7.5 Ft and the weight of his armor was 70 kg, his shoes 10 kg, Sword 10 Kg, and spear weapon was 80 kg. Maharana Pratap was so powerful that he cut Bahlol Khan into two parts along with his horse with his sword. The horse of Maharana Pratap, Chetak also powerful that he almost killed Raja Man Singh and supported Pratap in this war a lot.
In this war, when the Mughal army surrounded Maharana Pratap, then Chetak saved him and dropped him in a safer place. However, in this war, one leg of Chetak was also amputated. But still, he did not give up.
After this war, Maha Rana Pratap promised to eat Grass Roti and sleep on earth until he got his capital back. And, started to train tribals people and consolidated a big army. After this, Akbar had tried to take over Mewar many times but was never successful. And at the same time, the Mughal army was getting also very tired while attacking, even they don’t have proper food and money to survive.
After which, Maha Rana Pratap won western Mewar including Gogunda, Kumbhalgarh and Udaipur. And, he declared Chavand as his capital, which was near Dungarpur.
Maharana Pratap, the Great Warrior left his body on 29th January 1597. After which, his eldest son, Amar Singh was the ruler of Mewar. Maharana Pratap was such a great ruler, who always kept Mewar from the reach of the Mughals. Along with this, he used to respect women a lot. He had also saved many women from the clutches of Akbar.
